Japan in search of China's substitute to import apparels

India not to be left behind is also looking at opportunities in Japan. India which has a very negligible share of just 1.0 percent (2011) in Japanese clothing imports has declared Japan as a focus market and has provided incentives to its textile and apparel exporters to export to non-traditional markets like Japan.

Other countries like Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia too have set their sights on the lucrative Japanese market. However, a word of caution. These countries need to move up the value-chain by producing high quality and high value products which is a pre-requisite for entering the Japanese market, the official wound up by saying.
