H&M’s thoughts go to the ones affected by the devastating fire yesterday at a garment factory in Bangladesh. The tragic accident happened at a factory that does not produce for H&M.

H&M plays an active role in improving fire safety in Bangladeshi garment factories. In 2011, H&M initiated an educational film programme with the aim to increase fire safety awareness amongst our suppliers and their employees in garment factories in Bangladesh. Reaching out to all of the approximately 4,500 exporting garment factories in Bangladesh, around 3 million workers will receive the training until 2013.

Collaboration between different parties is necessary to achieve improved fire safety. For this reason H&M also works closely together with local authorities and the government in order to prevent serious fire accidents. Our aim is to bring long-term improvements in fire safety across the entire Bangladeshi garment industry.
