Ahuja Sons, a leading Delhi-based manufacturing company, has manufactured 100-percent pure wool shawl that can be washed at home with a normal detergent in the washing machine; it can be dried in spin tub without any fear of fabric shrinking or getting spoiled.

S K Chaudhury, Director North East Asia of Woolmark, said that this product would be introduced in domestic market later this year.

Chaudhury also informed media that Woolmark had this technology but wanted some company to manufacture.

Arindham Saha, Manager Woolmark, added that product was ready for exports.

Speaking about the quality of this shawl, Saha explained that normally 30 percent shrinkage was reported in a pure wool shawl, if washed at home. This is a major disadvantage of the product, since home washing spoils the texture of shawl.

All these complaints would be dealt with as the company had already tried this technology for pure wool sweaters and also for thermals two years ago.

Saha also added that the new technology shields the scales of fibre with a chemical layer, therefore it would be an easy-wash garment and would not need any special care.
