DHL to hike rates by 4% for Asia-Pacific consignments

DHL, leading logistics and express delivery company has announced increase in rates for express shipments to Asia-Pacific region in order to meet rising costs.
A unit of Germany's Deutsche Post AG, it plans an average 4 percent increase effective from May 1, 2006.
DHL was compelled to increase rates due to rising operation cost, compliance with strict aviation security regimes as well as investments in technology and systems for quality and consistency of services throughout the network.
Majority of the high operational costs have been absorbed by the company.
DHL has invested over $1.6 billion in Asia Pacific from 2000 to 2006, including recently announced $110 million expansion of DHL Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong.
