Mothers Work March same-store sales rise 2.2%, total sales up 7%

For the quarter ended March 31st 2006, the company opened five stores, including three multi-brand stores, and closed 25 stores, with 11 of these store closings related to multi-brand store openings.

Rebecca Matthias, President and COO of Mothers Work, noted, "We are very pleased to report that our sales for the month of March exceeded our expectations, as we delivered a same-store sales increase of 2.2 percent for the month despite the adverse effect of the Easter timing shift, which we estimate hurt our March comparable store sales results by approximately 1 percentage point.”

"Looking forward, we feel very good about our product lines and our inventory position, and feel very confident about our business. We continue to be very optimistic about delivering significantly improved financial results and continuing our strategic transition in fiscal 2006,” she added.
