To mark the 50th anniversary of the internationally famous Spanish bridalwear retailer Pronovias, an exhibit titled ‘50 Love Stories’ was organized recently at the Convent dels Àngels in Barcelona.

Aimed at highlighting the history, creativity and savoir faire of the wedding fashion company, the display included an array of designs, from the firm’s initial decades to the present day, worn by well-known celebrity brides.

One of the major attractions of the exhibit was a Balenciaga-designed and Pronovias-produced two-piece strapless gown with a white mink bodice and a matching silk satin coat (worn by Susanna Gallardo at her November 1988 wedding to the label owner Palatchi).

Also, some bejewelled shirtdresses (2003) and few 1950’s style embroidered, crystal-encrusted, organza and Chantilly lace crafted dresses, created by the brand’s former creative director Manuel Mota, formed a part of the display.

According to WWD, the ‘50 Love Stories’ exhibit will later this year travel to New York and Milan in October and November, respectively.

With its humble beginning as a lace, embroidery and high-quality silk fabric selling store in Catalonia in 1922, the bridal firm Pronovias launched its first prêt-a-porter wedding gown collection in 1964.

The company operates through a retail network of nearly 164 stores and over 4,000 points of sale in 105 countries worldwide.
