Japanese apparel retailer Fast Retailing has said that it is committed to ensuring human rights and appropriate working conditions at all of its manufacturing partners.

The company made this announcement in the context of a strike currently underway at Shenzhen Artigas Clothing & Leatherware, a garment factory managed by Lever Style, which is one of Uniqlo’s suppliers.

“At Fast Retailing, ensuring human rights and appropriate working conditions are of the utmost importance,” the company said in a media statement.

Fast Retailing said it is concerned by the reported strike and is looking into it. Moreover, it has requested that management of the owner company, Lever Style, to undertake thorough discussions with the workers, for a peaceful resolution.

The Japanese firm said it has communicated to the management of the China-based company that if the situation is not promptly resolved, it will take appropriate action, including re-assessing the relationship with the supplier. (RKS)
