There has been a 54 percent drop in export of readymade garments (RMG) to the US last month as against same period previous fiscal.
As against the figure of US $5,607,532 in January 2006, export of garments to US stood at $2,597,746 last month as per statistics of Garment Association of Nepal (GAN).
The US still remains a prime importer of Nepali RMG.
In December 2006, RMG exports to this giant market stood at $3,408,950. There was six percent fall in RMG exports last year, while in 2005 they fell 41 percent.
Provision of quota free facilities to Caribbean and Sub-Saharan African nations by the US has affected Nepal's garment exports very badly.
