Readymade garments (RMG) manufacturers and exporters were requested to solve the issue of workers' wages, provide them with health insurance and self-regulate RMG sector through domestic compliance rating for firms.

At a reception given in honour of Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on February 20, 2007 by BGMEA at Hotel Sonargaon, Yunus made the pleadings. He opined that establishment of compliance ratings on various levels for every company could improve circumstances.

BGMEA members were urged by the professor to resolve problems related to wages of labourers. He compared achievements of BGMEA with Grameen Bank, his brainchild.

He praised both organizations for generating employment for poverty stricken Bangladeshi women, thus developing strong entrepreneurial spirit. People were afraid the end of MFA in 2005 would render poor women workers of RMG sector redundant, but local apparel manufacturers did not let this happen.

Yunus was requested to support the demand by garment exporters for obtaining duty-free access to US markets by S M Fazlul Hoque, BGMEA's President.
