Carter to close Liberty distribution center to improve service & reduce costs

Carter's Inc the largest branded marketer of apparel for babies and young children in the United States, announced that it will close its distribution center in Liberty, Kentucky. This facility is one of two distribution centers supporting the OshKosh B'Gosh division, which Carter's acquired in July 2005.
'The decision to close the Liberty distribution center is part of their strategy to improve their service to their customers and reduce distribution costs,' said David A. Brown, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. 'The Liberty distribution center's operations will be consolidated throughout the Company's existing distribution and logistics network where capacity can be leveraged to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.'
'They realize the impact that this decision has on their employees, their families, and the community,' added David Brown. 'They will provide severance and outplacement services to affected employees to help them transition to other employment.'
Carter's Inc is the nation's largest branded marketer of children's apparel for ages newborn to six years old. Carter's Inc markets the Carter's and OshKosh B'Gosh brands, two of the most trusted and recognized brands in the marketplace. These brands are sold in more than 4,000 department and national chain stores and through more than 350 Company- operated stores. The OshKosh B'Gosh brand is also sold in more than 50 countries worldwide.
Carter's Child of Mine and Just One Year brands are available at Wal-Mart and Target, respectively. OshKosh B'Gosh's Genuine Kids brand is sold at Target. Carter's Inc is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
