The Garment Manufacturers Association of Cambodian (GMAC) announced that, in an effort to address the shortage of skilled labour in the clothing export industry, it is planning to set up a training centre at a cost of US $2 million.
This was announced by the President of GMAC, Mr Leng, who said that it will train nearly 300 workers and supervisors per year, which would boost competitiveness of the industry, and would be able to address the shortage to a certain extent.
Thousands of workers are workers are working as designers in the textile and garment units, but now this training centre will provide an alternative source for the garment companies within the next five years, he said. Reportedly there are 8,000 foreign workers in the sector.
