Upscale ladies' and men's specialty apparel chain stores Harold's Stores Inc announced sales results for the third quarter and year-to-date periods ended October 29, 2005.
Net sales for the quarter were $23.3 million, compared to $23.1 million for the same period in the previous year, an increase of 1.0 percent. Both total Company and full-line retail comparable store sales decreased 0.4 percent, while comparable outlet store sales declined 1.5 percent. The Company's direct sales (internet and catalog) were $803,000 during the quarter, almost double the sales of $405,000 last year.
Net sales for the year-to-date period were $67.6 million compared to $66.6 million for the same period in the prior year, an increase of 1.6 percent. Total comparable store sales were down 0.1 percent, with a decrease of 0.4 percent in the full-line retail stores and an increase of 6.1 percent in the outlet stores. The Company's direct sales (internet and catalog) were $2.4 million for the year- to-date, nearly three times the year ago levels of $837,000.
The business was good during the month of August, as Customers responded well to wear-now merchandise. However, September sales were approximately $1.5 million below last year due to unseasonably warm temperatures and the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita that directly affected the Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi stores.
Leonard Snyder, Interim Chief Executive Officer stated that they were pleased to see October sales recover, as they re-positioned the fall season full-line store event from November last year into October of this year, the month where it has always historically been held.
