Quebec's garment industry stages a comeback

Quebec's garment industry will reappear soon, after witnessing a slowdown in past years. Few companies have started buying goods from Canadian wholesalers instead of low-priced foreign items.

The Banana Republic chain of Gap Inc. started manufacturing suits in Boisbriand, Canada. In spite of the higher labour costs than in Asia, Gap Inc. selected the factory at the north of Montreal as quality of the product is a crucial factor, stated Ms. Kindley Walsh Lawlor, Spokeswoman of Gap at a press conference.

The suits produced in Canada are of good quality and are manufactured in suitable conditions. Moreover, the manufacturing process of clothing is very swift in Canada. The garment can be manufactured here in a maximum of 20 days, which cannot be done in China, said an expert.
