The Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) has resigned from the primary membership of the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), a textile manufacturers' trade body, citing that, the objectives with which CITI was started have not been met.
Speaking exclusively to fibre2fashion, Mr A Sakhtivel, President of TEA said, “CITI was started with the purpose to bring change across all the sectors of the textile sector and the objectives with which CITI was started have not been met.
“We have told them many times that it has to be a body representing the textile sector as a whole and not just one segment, but, since it is mostly dominated by the mill sector, they did not come around to our way of thinking, so we felt that it was not necessary to continue”.
TEA is mainly made up of apparel exporters from the Tirupur belt in South India.
