Export of finished leather and leather products recorded a growth of 3.03 percent and from $1194.24 million to $1230.41 million in the first half of the current financial year.
The 19.21 percent boost in the export of footwear resulted in growth from $282.88 million to $337.22 million.
Footwear components also went up by 2.85 percent while the export of leather garments declined by 8.13 percent.
The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has been taking a few specific actions, since last few years, to increase the export of footwear to the European and US markets. Hence, the footwear leather export has registered a steady rise since last year.
The CLE now is planning out measures to pick up leather garment exports.
A twelve-member delegation from the American Apparel and Footwear Association studied the major Indian footwear manufacturing centers.
CLE now expects several companies in Delhi, Agra and Chennai to get firm orders from leading American footwear companies.
