Apparel Export Promotion Council has been working diligently on issues related to compliance in the garment industry. Continuing its association with the Prime Source Forum, AEPC has yet again been part of the premier global networking event organised for the apparel industry. The forum would take place from 30th March to 1st April, 2011 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Every year, Prime Source Forum brings a new perspective to what's going on in the world and brings different countries together with different viewpoints. The sessions would discuss issues like balance of trade, challenges and competition, material innovation, sourcing in Asia/Alternatives to China, retaining talent by creating hot spots and much more.

“I would be elaborating on the issues related to labour especially focusing on the instability in the labour supply and for increasing labour wages drive production costs up. Low Wage is a key factor enforcing developed countries to shift their manufacturing & services to low cost basis,” said Ms. Chandrima Chatterjee, Director Compliance, Economic Consultancy, Apparel Export Promotion Council.

“Lack of basic training in discipline, organizational environment, etc for fresh labor to get settled in a new environment can be one of the reasons for the instability in labour supply. Besides this, there is a need for awareness programmes for a large number of women who are capable of industrial work, but are unemployed and forced to do paltry jobs with poor income prospects and uncertain future. Flexible labour laws can help in increasing the labour supply in the garment industry,” She further added.

Prime Sources Forum organized by APLF Ltd, is an annual meeting place for the apparel industry. APLF Ltd is a joint-venture formed by CMP Asia and the SIC Group of France. It will be attended by numerous key players in the apparel industry, supply chain from raw materials to retail. The workshop and forum will provide an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in the area of the textile and apparel industry.
