The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has called for ease of doing business, lowering production costs, addressing liquidity crunch through early refunds payment, uniform energy tariff and relaxed import policy for industrial raw material to enhance exports. The recommendations were part of its budget proposals.

PRGMEA senior vice chairman Sheikh Luqman Amin blamed bureaucratic hurdles for Pakistan being ranked 147th in ease of doing business among 190 countries, as more than 20 different government departments are discouraging exporters, according to Pakistani media reports.

Amin said the various provincial departments are playing a negative role and treating manufacturers and exporters as criminals.

Requesting duty free import of G3 and G4 type fabric for re-export of garments, he requested the government to introduce a liberal import policy for raw materials not being manufactured in Pakistan. (DS)
