The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) recently stressed the need to explore non-conventional international markets to boost textile exports. Pakistan trade houses, i.e., display centres, should be established in Dubai and Rotterdam to help domestic exporters, according to PRGMEA chief coordinator Ijaz A Khokhar.

These centres will help domestic entrepreneurs to conveniently settle business deals at minimum travel costs, a Pakistani newspaper quoted Khokar as saying.

Urging the government to split the textile sector into three categories—raw material, home textile and apparel, he said a garment export promotion council should be established comprising representatives from the public and private sectors to monitor garment manufacturing activity and policymaking.
