The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) under the country’s department of science and technology (DOST) recently started a collaborative project with the Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) Programme of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) to come up with a prototype sizing system that fits the Filipino physique.

With the goal of promoting innovative design development processes and supporting the domestic garment industry, DOST established the Textile Product Development Centre (TPDC), a technologically equipped hub, where textile artists, manufacturers and retailers can transform their research into tangible and functional output.

The grant-in-aid project with Benilde, titled ‘Perfect Fit’, will use computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing software, design visualisation to establishment an integrated textile product development process to produce a Philippine standard sizing system using a 3D body scanning system, according to a PTRI release.

DLS-CSB joined DOST-PTRI as the academe partner and research arm. (DS)
