Retailing giant Walmart has announced the appointment of Sean Clarke as president and CEO of its subsidiary in UK, Asda, with effect from July 11, 2016.

Sean will be replacing Andy Clarke, the CEO of Asda since last six years, as Andy decided to step down from the role and to serve as an advisor to Walmart for the remaining portion of 2016.

Sean is one of the most experienced executives in Walmart. He has served as the president and CEO of Walmart China, in addition to his role in Walmart Japan and Walmart Canada. He started his career in Asda in 1996.

His expertise will help the company's Project Renewal, and to reposition the company in a competitive market place.

Additionally, Roger Burnley has also been appointed as the deputy CEO and chief operating officer of Asda, with effect from October 2016.

“Together with the existing Asda executive team, Sean and Roger will serve as an incredibly powerful team to lead our Asda business,” David Cheesewright, president and CEO of Walmart International commented.

“Their complementary skills and combined expertise in UK retail market and globally brings an unrivaled breadth of retail knowledge to Asda,” he added. (MCJ)
