Spinali Design, a French startup company, showcased its smart jeans, which vibrate to give directions to wearers, at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Available as shorts, capris, regular jeans and skirts, the outfit features a belt embedded with two sensors that vibrate on the left or the right side to guide the wearer.

The sensors on the jeans are connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth and vibrate to let wearers know of the direction they need to take while navigating through an unknown neighbourhood. It is possible to customise the duration, frequency and intensity of the vibrations using a feature called ‘ping’.

“The system can also be programmed to inform you if you are running late. With its integrated push button, this clothing of the future has numerous uses: security alerts, home support, geolocation of your children, a solution for the problem of isolated workers,” says the Spinali Design website.

The company had also introduced smart bikinis that send notifications to the wearer when it is time to apply sunscreen through a chip connected to a smartphone. (KD)
