Taiwan-based footwear maker Hong Fu has been presented with a land allotment letter by India’s Tamil Nadu government, as the state prepares for the company to establish a manufacturing facility. In April 2022, a pact was signed between the state government and Hong Fu, in the presence of chief minister MK Stalin, for a footwear manufacturing unit to be established in Tamil Nadu, with an investment of ₹1,000 crore over a period of three to five years.

The proposed plant is expected to create 20,000 jobs, including 2,650 indirect jobs, according to local media reports.

An official release stated that 130 acres of land has been identified in the Ranipet district for the project, and the land allotment order was presented to Hong Fu president TY Chang by the minister of industries, Thangam Thennarasu, at an event held in the secretariat.

The event was attended by several officials, including S Krishan, the additional chief secretary of the industries department; E Sundaravalli, the managing director of the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT); and Vishnu, the MD and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu.

Hong Fu is known for manufacturing footwear for various global brands.
