German testing and certification firm TUV SUD has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City Association of Garment Textile Embroidery and Knitting (AGTEK) to help the latter's members enter global markets.

As per the MoU, both sides will jointly organise quality and safety workshops and awareness programmes related to the garment and textile industry, Vietnamese media reported.

The training sessions would provide HCM garment manufacturers in-depth and updated information about stringent international quality and safety standards, TUV SUD Vietnam general director Sathish Kumar Somuraj said.

For Vietnamese companies, especially those keen on selling in international markets, quality and safety control are important, said Somuraj.

The MoU includes a special promotion for AGTEK members, who are mainly small and medium-sized enterprises and for whom cost is a concern. Hence, it will greatly benefit AGTEK member companies and help their businesses grow, he added.

In recent years, Vietnam has signed free trade agreements with major markets like the US, the EU, Japan, Korea and Asean. These agreements provide new business opportunities to Vietnamese companies, but it also means that manufacturers have to meet more stringent safety and quality standards, AGTEK chairman Ph?m Xuân H?ng said.

In today's free trade scenario, international quality and safety regulations related to textiles and garment products are changing constantly. Buyers, particularly from the US and the EU, are increasingly demanding with respect the kind and quality of products they need, H?ng added. (RKS)
