The UK imported knitted garments worth $2.526 billion in January–March 2025, while woven garment imports stood at $2.161 billion in the same quarter, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
In the first quarter of 2021, the UK’s knitted garment imports were valued at $2.429 billion. This rose by 35.75 per cent to $3.298 billion in the same quarter of 2022. However, the value declined by 16.62 per cent to $2.750 billion in January–March 2023 and further decreased by 15.93 per cent to $2.312 billion in January–March 2024. It then recovered by 9.28 per cent to reach $2.526 billion in the same quarter of 2025.
The country imported woven garments worth $1.768 billion in January–March 2021, which surged by 43.04 per cent to $2.528 billion in January–March 2022. Imports then edged down by 1.38 per cent to $2.493 billion in Q1 2023 and fell further by 19.21 per cent to $2.014 billion in Q1 2024. In Q1 2025, woven garment imports rebounded by 7.30 per cent to $2.161 billion.
Total garment imports rose by 8.36 per cent in January–March 2025, compared to $4.326 billion in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
In the full year 2024, the UK imported apparel worth $19.698 billion, of which knitted garments accounted for $11.018 billion (55.94 per cent) and woven garments $8.679 billion (44.06 per cent), as per TexPro.
Total apparel imports stood at $24.115 billion in 2022, which declined by 15.88 per cent to $20.285 billion in 2023.
In 2022, knitted garments made up $13.569 billion (56.27 per cent) of imports, while woven garments totalled $10.546 billion (43.73 per cent). In 2023, knitted garment imports declined to $11.193 billion (55.18 per cent), and woven garments to $9.091 billion (44.82 per cent), respectively.
