India’s West Bengal has proposed to set up a common facility centre to raise the state’s garments industry to global standards, according to state finance minister Amit Mitra. During the 47th Garment Buyers and Sellers Meet recently, he urged the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Dealers Association (WBGMDA) to join hands with the state government for this.

Mitra said he would soon deliberate with officials of the finance department to develop the garments manufacturing system in the state, according to media reports from the state.

He suggested organising a ‘kids garment exhibition' in Kolkata as there is no concept of such an event till now. (DS)
