Esprit, a globally renowned fashion brand, has joined the initiative encouraging social, economic and ecological improvements in the textile supply chain - Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (Bundnis fur nachhaltige Textilien), as a part of its responsible business practise, according to a press statement released by the brand.

Partnership for Sustainable Textiles is a multi-stakeholder initiative for the textile and clothing industry formed to tackle common sustainability challenges, collaborate and learn through one another and thereby improve the conditions in textile and clothing producing countries.

Dr. Gerd Muller, the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development was the initiating force behind the partnership.

Commenting on the brand joining the partnership, Lary Brown, vice president & head of Global Social Compliance and Sustainability of Esprit said, “We are very positive about Dr. Muller's initiative. Since many of the abuses that workers face around the world are illegal under local law, there is a definite role for the government in our on-going efforts to assure working conditions in our supplier factories globally.”

“We welcome the German government's support of our efforts, and will ensure that our business operations blend as seamlessly as possible with this alliance's standards,” he said. (MCJ)
