H&M to source down only from RDS certified farms

In view of its commitment to making sustainable products, H&M, a Sweden based fashion retailer, will source down only from farms that are certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), according to a press statement released by the retailer.

RDS is a certification programme jointly made by the Textile Exchange, Control Union and North Face. It ensures that animals used for product manufacturing were not subject to any unethical treatment like force feeding and live plucking. All the farms certified under RDS are verified by a third party.

H&M integrated RDS in its product line to ensure that it meets its sustainability requirements on animal fibres and raises its level on animals' and birds' welfare in the industry.

Commenting on the move, Madeleine Ericsson, sustainability business expert at H&M said, “We believe that animals are entitled to a humane treatment and want to push for improved animal welfare in the industry as a whole. We are happy to be able to integrate RDS down across our products.”

The certified products will hit H&M stores from the autumn/winter season 2016 and onwards. (MCJ)
