The annual OECD forum on due diligence in the garment and footwear sector, scheduled to take place on February 11-12, at the OECD headquarters in Paris, France will focus on the implementation of mandatory due diligence within the sector.

The garment and footwear sector, one of the world's largest consumer goods sectors, faces increasing scrutiny from consumers and governments in how it manages its operations and contributes to sustainable development, including through its supply chain. At the forum, representatives from government, business, trade unions, civil society, academia, and international organisations will discuss what is at stake for due diligence practice in this sector in light of emerging expectations and regulations, and the key opportunities and challenges businesses, stakeholders and policy makers can address together.

On February 11, representatives from key corporate and industry bodies including IndustriALL Global Union, Sapphire Textile Mills, World Benchmarking Alliance, the EU Commission, and the government of Bangladesh, will take part in panel discussions on purchasing practices, responsible disengagement and effective monitoring and validation of due diligence, OECD said on its website.

On February 12, discussions will focus on stakeholder engagement, the role of sustainability initiatives, measuring due diligence and its impacts, working with new supply chain partners as companies adopt more circular practices, and more. Speakers will include representatives from H&M, Bestseller, SanMar, Scavi Group, and the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers’ Democratic Union.
