The carpet weaving industry of Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh is famous all over the country.
They are also exported to foreign countries like France, Russia, London and others through whole-sale traders in Delhi and Panipat.
But these days the carpet industry is facing a difficult time with many factory owners blaming the Government for lack of support.
The business is controlled by some rich people in Panipat and Delhi. They buy the products at lesser price leaving the workers with very less money.
Government officials claim to have started many schemes for the betterment of these workers.
According to Sanjay Prasad, District Majistrate, Agra, business is failing these days due to lack of professional training and proper marketing of the products.
Many schemes like Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Yojna (Prime Minister Employment Scheme), Artisans' Credit card Scheme etc, have been started. The weavers can get loans easily.
Self-help Groups of these weavers have been formed under Swarn Jayanti Grameen Vikas Yojna (Golden jubilee Village Development Scheme) to market their products, says Prasad.
