Traditional woollen carpets stood to be the most exported item from Nepal during the first four months of the current Nepali fiscal year that started on July 16, 2012, Republica reported citing a report of the Trade and Export Promotion Centre.

Rabindra Duwadi, Deputy Director of the Centre, said there is good demand for traditional Nepali woollen carpets in markets like the US, Germany and other EU nations.

Nepal exported Np Rs. 1.8 billion worth of woollen carpets to countries like the US, Germany and other EU nations during the first four months of the current fiscal, the report shows.

The figure is, however, lower than the Rs. 2.2 billion worth of woollen carpet exports made by the country during the corresponding period of last year.

With exports worth Rs. 1.3 billion, readymade garments were the second most exported item from Nepal during the four-month period.
