After achieving good results in domestic market, Oman-based National Carpet Factory (NSF) SAOG, a producer of fusion carpets and carpet rugs, now plans to expand in overseas market, Oman Daily Observer reported.

Eyeing expansion in big EU market, the firm is now working to upgrade its production technology by equipping its Sohar-based factory with state-of-the-art machines.

Ali al Amouri, Manager Sales at NSF said till now the factory operated with old machinery, but now they are upgrading the same as they are eyeing penetration in international markets like the EU, Africa and Gulf markets, with high quality products.

He said they have already bought two latest weaving machines from Belgium and plan to procure some more machines in near future.

He further said that Omani carpets are considered to be amongst the best in the region and they provide tough competition to Turkish carpets.

Representing around 75 percent share of national carpet market, NCF each month sells around 4,000-5,000 sq m of carpet in off season and over 10,000 sq m of carpet during peak seasons like Eid, Ramadhan and other festivals.

The official said the firm imports most of its raw-material requirements - it procures polyester and jute from India and Bangladesh, while glue from Belgium.
