Carpet exports from Turkey reached US $670 billion mark in 2005, indicating a 28.9 percent increase over the figure acheived in 2004.
While machine made carpet exports rose 33.1 percent at $547 billion, hand made carpet export went up by just 12.8 percent.
The Middle East market share stood at 21 percent of the total carpet exports from Turkey recording an increase of 23.5 percent over the previous year.
Other important markets for Turkish carpet exporters were Former Soviet Republics (Russian Federation Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan), OECD Countries (USA, Canada, Switzerland) with a share of 18.8 and 12.1 percent, respectively.
Carpet exports from Turkey to the USA jumped 31.8 percent in 2005 due to intensive market promotion activities carried out by the carpet companies, industry sources revealed.
