Iran, the world's leading carpet exporter, exported handmade carpet worth $556 million during the previous Iranian calendar year that ended on March 20, 2011, which is 12 percent higher than in its previous year.
The figure is indicative of a year on year rise of four percent in export volumes.
Italy, US, Lebanon, Germany, Japan and the United Arab are the key importers of Persian carpet, while Malaysia, China, Brazil and Kazakhstan are looked upon as the new target markets.
By offering carpets at competitive rates as compared to India, Pakistan and China, and by altering the designs and colours of the carpets in accordance with global demand, Iran has been able to raise its share in the world markets.
