Sadeq Najafi, Head of East Azarbijan's Commerce Organization recently stated that, the hand-woven carpets prepared by artisans in Iran's North-western province of East Azarbaijan are gaining a strong grip in the global carpet market.
Around 70 percent of the entire lot of carpets produced in the region is meant for exports, and is exported to five continents across the globe.
Commerce Minister Mehdi Qazanfari has recently announced that, of the world's total annual carpet exports volume of $1.3 billion, around $500 million or 40 percent are contributed by Iran.
Further, the Minister even added that, Iranian carpet exports grew 12 percent year on year during last Iranian year which ended on March 20, 2011.
Iran is the world's biggest exporter of hand-woven carpets, and ships to over 100 countries across the globe.
Its Persian rugs remain in great demand for their intricate design and skilful making.
