The EVTEKS, said to be the second biggest home textiles fair that concluded recently in Istanbul, Turkey, left Indian carpet exporters a disappointed lot.

At the 17th edition of Istanbul Home Textiles Exhibition, Indian carpet exporters bagged orders worth US$ 5 million, 50 percent less than their expected target of US$ 10 million. About 13 carpet exporters, who participated in the five-day event, complained that they were not provided enough space to exhibit their products.

The exporters found the situation to be similar for all international pavilions including that of China. These countries were provided stalls in a conference room as halls were overbooked.

This was the first time that carpet exporters from India participated in the exhibition, which brought less number of customers/visitors this year compared to previous years.

Most of the buyers who visited the exhibition were already existing customers of the Indian carpet export companies, and they found no new buyers.

Indian carpet export companies have around 35 buyers in Australia, Belgium, Canada, South Africa, and other countries. These customers visited the exhibition on the invitation of Indian companies.
