The business climate in Germany's chemical industry showed signs of improvement in April, with the index rising to minus 6 points from minus 10.1 points in March, according to the ifo Institute. Companies assessed their current business situation at minus 16 points, a slight improvement from minus 18 points in March. Business expectations have significantly brightened, with the indicator climbing to 4.6 points in April, up from minus 1.9 points in March.

Despite these positive developments, the demand situation in the chemical industry remains tense. Nearly half of the companies reported receiving too few orders, with the figure increasing to 46.6 per cent in April from 40.6 per cent in January.

However, there is optimism about future orders, especially from abroad. For the first time since January 2023, some companies are planning to raise their sales prices, and more companies intend to expand production in the coming months.
