  • The European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties of 29.1 per cent to 42.3 per cent on adipic acid imports from China.
  • The product is widely used in textiles, automotive, furniture, footwear and construction sectors.
  • EU imports of adipic acid total around €160 million (~$181 million), with China accounting for €130 million (~$147 million).
The European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties ranging from 29.1 per cent to 42.3 per cent on imports of adipic acid from China after concluding that Chinese exporters were selling the product in the European Union (EU) at unfairly lower prices.

The duties follow an investigation by the Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security, which found that dumped imports were causing injury to the EU adipic acid industry. Provisional anti-dumping duties on the product had already been in place since November last year, the European Commission said in a press release.

According to the Commission, the EU adipic acid industry, located mainly in Germany, France and Italy, employs more than 1,100 people and has been adversely affected by low-priced imports from China.

Adipic acid is a key industrial chemical used in the production of Nylon 66 and polyester polyols, serving sectors such as textiles, furniture, automotive, footwear and construction. The EU imports adipic acid worth around €160 million (~$181 million) annually from outside the bloc, of which nearly €130 million (~$147 million) comes from China.
