The event occurred at approximately 2 pm, when a 2,500-litre storage tank containing oleum chemically known as fuming sulphuric acid developed a leak within the premises. Oleum is a highly corrosive and reactive chemical widely used in industrial processes, particularly in dye and dye-intermediate manufacturing.
Upon exposure to atmospheric moisture, oleum forms sulphuric acid mist, which manifests as dense white fumes. In this instance, the vapours became visible beyond the immediate storage zone, raising precautionary concerns in the surrounding industrial area. Authorities are assessing the dispersion pattern and reviewing safety systems as part of a detailed technical evaluation.
