Poland's Grupa Azoty launches DuoS nitrogen-sulphur fertilizer

As part of delivering these objectives, the Group is expanding its portfolio with a new nitrogen–sulphur fertilizer with added calcium DuoS. The product follows the trend of improving nutrient use efficiency and reducing losses associated with leaching and the instability of nitrogen and sulphur forms.         

DuoS is one of the new fertilizer formulations planned for implementation in the current season, consistent with the strategic direction of developing the fertilizer segment and the Group’s focus on more specialised products.

The differentiated sulphur release dynamics ensure availability both in the initial growth stages and later in the growing season. Modified nitrogen-to-sulphur ratios have been aligned with crops’ nutrient uptake curves, reducing the risk of overstimulating crops during sensitive periods (including early spring and late autumn).

The new formulation is based on:

• two forms of nitrogen (nitrate and ammonium),    
• two sources of sulphur (ammonium sulphate and anhydrite),     
• the addition of calcium to support plant resilience and yield quality.  

Product description: DuoS

DuoS is a granular nitrogen–sulphur fertilizer with added calcium, developed by Grupa Azoty S.A. as part of the expanding fertilizer portfolio.

The fertilizer provides three key nutrients:

Nitrogen (N) – in two forms:

• nitrate (NO3?) – rapidly available to plants,
• ammonium (NH4?) – more stable in the soil, with a longer-lasting effect.

This combination delivers a fast “starter” effect and more even nutrition in later growth stages, while reducing losses.    

Sulphur (S) – from two sources:    

• from ammonium sulphate – a sulphate form available immediately after application,         
• from anhydrite – released gradually, reducing leaching risk and extending nutrient availability.

Two-stage sulphur release makes supply better aligned with plants’ uptake curves, especially in crops with high sulphur demand (including oilseed rape, maize and brassica crops).

Calcium (Ca) – released with a delay relative to nitrogen, supports cell wall formation and improves plant tolerance to stress factors.

Agronomic effects   

• Optimised nitrogen-to-sulphur ratios reduce the risk of overstimulating plants in sensitive periods (autumn, early spring).            
• Two-stage sulphur availability lowers the risk of sulphur losses during heavy rainfall.
• The formulation supports more stable crop development and the build-up of yield quality parameters. 

Application   

DuoS is intended for:

• pre-sowing application          
• top dressing

It may be applied:      

• in autumn (supporting the breakdown of crop residues and preparing winter crops),
• in late winter/early spring (the first nitrogen dose),             
• in subsequent growth stages (building yield and quality).             
• Recommended for:  
• winter and spring cereals,   
• oilseed rape, 
• maize,
• root crops,     
• vegetables and industrial crops,     
• grasslands on mineral soils (meadows and pastures).

The product’s granulation enables even spreading on both narrow and wide working widths, including in less favourable windy conditions.     

DuoS is one of the new fertilizer formulations being introduced by Grupa Azoty this season as part of the development of the fertilizer segment.
