  • The move reinforces supply reliability and innovation across coatings, plastics, and automotive markets, enhancing its Paliogen Red and Spectrasense pigment lines known for durability, colour purity, and functional performance.

Sun Chemical, a wholly owned subsidiary of DIC Corporation, has expanded perylene pigment production capacity at its Ludwigshafen, Germany site, adding up to 200 metric tons of finished goods and intermediates to meet growing global demand. The expansion reinforces Sun Chemical’s long-term commitment to providing a secure and reliable supply of high-performance perylene pigments to customers across the coatings, plastics and automotive markets.

“Perylenes are core to our portfolio and represent an important area of ongoing innovation,” said Alex Baron, Vice President and Global Commercial Director, Sun Chemical. “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver diversified, high-performance color solutions and supports the development of new products that meet customers’ most demanding application requirements.”

The Ludwigshafen expansion marks a significant step in strengthening supply continuity, supporting growth in key global markets and building on Sun Chemical’s perylene pigment portfolio, which includes industry-leading red to violet and functional black grades designed for superior performance across a range of applications.

Paliogen Red premium perylene pigments deliver exceptional durability and color purity, offering intense red to maroon shades with excellent heat resistance and stable outdoor performance. Certified with ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX, these pigments support sustainable solutions in grades engineered for vibrant chroma and transparency for luxury and automotive coating applications.

Spectrasense functional black perylene pigments combine deep black coloration with functional benefits such as solar heat management and flexible high-end laser welding capability. Spectrasense pigments allow formulation of NIR-reflective black surfaces that remain cooler under sunlight, while also providing transparency and deep black colors for demanding applications like automotive or building and construction.

“By expanding capacity in Ludwigshafen, we are reinforcing our commitment to product quality, innovation and supply reliability,” said Brian Panczyk, President of Color Materials, Sun Chemical. “Our customers rely on Sun Chemical for consistency and technical excellence, and this milestone ensures we continue to meet those expectations reliably.”
