Insights

  • PTT Global Chemical continues full-capacity polyethylene production despite global volatility, ensuring stable domestic supply through a “Domestic First” approach.
  • Its integrated value chain supports feedstock flexibility, while a planned olefins unit restart in April will boost propylene output, easing polypropylene tightness and strengthening downstream supply chains.
PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) continues its polyethylene (PE) production at full capacity amid ongoing global volatility. The company reaffirms that domestic PE supply remains sufficient, while working closely with government agencies, business partners, customers, and stakeholders to ensure continuous product delivery to the domestic market.

PE plastic resins, one of GC’s key polymer products, includes HDPE, LDPE, and LLDPE. It is a key raw material for a wide range of everyday consumer products, such as plastic shopping bags, bottle caps, food wrap films, opaque bottles commonly used for personal care packaging, water gallons, water tanks, fishing nets, as well as infrastructure materials like black water pipes and electrical conduit pipes. GC continues to prioritize full-scale production, with a “Domestic First” allocation approach, alongside close delivery management to ensure adequate market supply and support business continuity for downstream industries.

The company’s ability to maintain uninterrupted production is driven by its integrated value chain, connecting operations from upstream to downstream. This platform enables flexible feedstock and production management, including the use of internally manufactured feedstock, which helps mitigate risks from global market volatility and current supply chain constraints.

Under current situations, certain plastic resins such as polypropylene (PP) have experienced temporary tightness due to global supply chain disruptions and import limitations, as many countries prioritize their domestic supply. PP is an essential material for food packaging products such as hot food bags, ready-to-eat packaging, beverage cups, microwaveable food containers, and industrial bulk bags (big bags).

To help ease such tightness, GC will restart one of its olefins units in April following a completion of scheduled turnaround. This will enhance propylene production capacity; the key feedstock for PP supporting domestic PP producers and strengthening the overall industrial supply chain.

GC continues to collaborate with both public and private sectors, as well as partners, to manage the supply chain end-to-end from feedstock sourcing and production to product delivery, ensuring that products reach customers continuously and reliably.
