The seasonal MoM growth of clothing and footwear was less significant in August than in the same month last year, partly due to the extension of the summer sales.
The country’s consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1 per cent MoM in August after rising by 0.1 per cent in July. Seasonally adjusted, consumer prices grew by 0.8 per cent in the month after no change in June.
Consumer prices went up by 4.9 per cent YoY in August after rising by 4.3 per cent in July. This increase in inflation mostly resulted from the YoY rebound in energy prices.
The prices of manufactured products rebounded by 1.5 per cent MoM in August after falling by 2.3 per cent in July. Such prices slowed down to a 3.1 per cent YoY rise after a 3.4 per cent rise in July, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) said in a release.
Core inflation decreased YoY, reaching 4.6 per cent in August after 5 per cent in July.
