After securing the impressive industries of IT and manufacturing, Andhra Pradesh (AP) government has targeted garments and textile sectors to utilize huge potential of employment for the benefit of economically weaker classes.

The sector, which has the upper hand over Chinese garment exports as western countries have limited Chinese exports by imposing 10 percent cap, has been given top priority, said Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister of the state.

Moreover, the state has declared a piece of 100 acre land as special economic zone (SEZ) to be established by Brandix Lanka Ltd. at Visakhapatnam.

The state has also approached leading garment exporters like Gokul Das Exports Ltd., Shahi Exports Ltd., Orient Craft, Gokul Das Images and Texpro Syndicate to start their operations in Nacharam IDA in Hyderabad.

With other industry giants in Andhra Pradesh, Grasim Industries is already looking for a location to start a big plant of rayon fibre.

Most possibly, Grasim considers Gadwal in backward Mahaboobnagar district as its location, Grasim officials said.

Visaka Industries is also interested in setting up a cotton spinning mill near Hyderabad.

Among these locations, Guntur boasts a prestigious site as it is the biggest cotton market and is manufacturing base of three lakh cotton spindles a year.
