Ao dai, the traditional Vietnamese tunic has recently made its mark in the international fashion arena.
Charming Vietnam, the fashion gala will be staged in Singapore at the Esplanade Concert Hall between August 18 to 19 where three local fashion designers — Vo Viet Chung, Si Hoang and Thuan Viet — will showcase their innovative new collections in front of elite fashionistas.
Vo Viet Chung's collection is a combination of contemporary style with classic designs that prevailed in the 40s. Many home made silk designs and colors of that period have been used in this creation.
Designer Si Hoang, who is interested in carving a niche across the globe, has represented Ao dai's in jeans, T-Shirts, and chemise pattern.
Thuan Viet's Glass Flower collection was motivated from afternoon rains and dews. He has used a lot of silk-and-lace embellished with crystals, pearls and hand-made embroidery.
