AP to provide boost to textile industry

Opening the two-day textile Forum "Emerging Opportunities...The Road Ahead", the Chief Minister, Y S Rajasekhar Reddy said that the initiatives and strategy for the textile industry in Andhra Pradesh would open job opportunities for a million unemployed people.

The forum was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Ssouthern Region. Reddy added that Textile and Apparel Promotion Policy 2005-10 has been prepared to cope with the challenges of unemployment.

With the largest employment base in the industrial segments, India is one of the oldest leading textile manufacturers, consumers and exporters among the top-ten exporters of textiles and clothing in the world and the industry is also a major economic enterprise, said Reddy.

Reddy also underlined the need for revamping of ginning factories as the technology for processing in India has failed to race with other technically advanced competitors abroad. Reddy also appealed Union government and financial organisations to offer help to the industry in this regard.

Industry giants in India ventilated the need for up-to-date infrastructure with approvals and suitable labour laws to encourage textile and garment industry.

Presiding over the forum, G Vinod, The Minister for Textiles and Labour talked about the Andhra Pradesh government's initiative in promoting the textile industry.
