The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) views that bamboo charcoal can strengthen Taiwan's textile industry in global market. It has introduced a range of textile goods made of bamboo charcoal.

After two years of research, MOEA developed technology of bamboo charcoal textiles in association with Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) and other textile companies.

As an official representative of bamboo products a ceremony in Taipei, Ho Mei-yueh, (MOEA) Minister opined that Taiwan could not afford to confine itself to a low-cost textile manufacturer.

He added that Taiwan must adopt the practice of higher cost textiles followed by other advance countries.

Clothing manufactured from bamboo charcoal textiles soak up unpleasant smell, retain heat, prevent electromagnetic radiation and keep humidity low, informed Huang Yao-tang, head of the TTRI.

If Taiwan textile industry wants to survive globally, it has to develop value-added unique products in present unstable market, said Huang.

MOEA also launched a new trademark Phyllotex, which points out the product has been entirely made in Taiwan by bamboo charcoal, for its line of bamboo charcoal products that comprises, soap, lotion, shampoo, and pillows besides clothing.

Today, Taiwanese market does offer bamboo charcoal items but they are imported.
