CPI for apparel for US urban consumers drops 0.8% MoM in Sept 2023

The US consumer price index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) rose by 0.4 per cent in September on a seasonally-adjusted basis after increasing by 0.6 per cent in August, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics. The CPI for apparel for urban consumers dropped by 0.8 per cent month on month in September.

Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 3.7 per cent before seasonal adjustment, the same increase as the 12 months ending in August.

An increase in the gasoline index was a major contributor to the all items monthly rise. While the major energy component indexes were mixed in September, the energy index rose by 1.5 per cent over the month after increasing by 5.6 per cent in August.

The energy index decreased by 0.5 per cent for the 12 months ending September.
