Moreover, 82 per cent of consumers used disinfectant wipes multiple times per week and 78 per cent started using or increased their use during the pandemic, according to a survey of 1,000 consumers in the US by non-profit organisation Cotton Incorporated.
The study also found several factors that were considered primary purchase drivers for wipes. Ninety per cent of consumers preferred wipes that stay wet in packages and 86 per cent wanted those that clean visible mess like dirt and spills. Ninety-six per cent liked wipes that clean invisible mess such as germs and bacteria, and 80 per cent said that they would choose wipes that were strong or did not tear.
Consumers showed a clear preference for cotton wipes compared to wipes made of synthetic fibres. While 59 per cent believed that cotton wipes were stronger compared to synthetic wipes, 57 per cent thought that the former did a better job of cleaning invisible mess like germs and bacteria. Also, 55 per cent said that one could more efficiently clean visible mess like dirt and spills using cotton wipes instead of synthetic ones.
