As part of the budget exercise, the Government is expected to analyze import duty on cotton, after considering National Commission's proposal to increase it, (except that on extra long fine cotton), from ten percent to 30 percent.

The Commission submitted a temporary report on farmers requesting the hike.

The Minister of State of Finance, SS Palanimanickam said that the import duties will be reviewed in order to protect domestic producers of cotton.
