Cotton output has more than doubled, while exports too have skyrocketed more than five times in the current season 2010-11 in Uganda.

Cotton production has risen from 70,300 bales (1bale = 185 kg) in the previous season to 147,000 bales in the current season.

Cotton output is expected to increase further in the next few years, due to increased use of inputs like pesticides and fertilizers.

Export earnings from cotton to have shot up more than five times to US $106 million from $20.7 million, a season earlier.

Cotton crop is grown and harvested between October and April.
